Tim Richards

Having trained classically and singing professionally before moving into Musical Theatre, Tim has a true understanding of what the modern singer needs to help them perform to their maximum potential. Tim spent over 10 years as a performer before becoming a vocal coach. That experience is essential to link application to vocal training.

Tim now is in high demand as a vocal coach in the UK and Internationally working in both the Classical and Musical Theatre world. In the UK he is based in Cardiff, where in addition to a thriving private practice, he is a Vocal Tutor on the MA Musical Theatre course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He also has a busy private practice in Marylebone in London.

Many of Tim’s clients can be seen in the major productions of the West End and also in touring productions. In addition to his Musical Theatre work his clients can be seen working with ENO, WNO and ROH.

Tim regularly visits Helsinki City Theatre to work on Theatre productions. These have included; Dance of the Vampires, Shrek and Tarzan. He is also involved in training the actors to prepare for Musical Theatre productions.

Tim is also in demand as Vocal Coach to the Pop Industry having worked for Sony Records and SYCO and on ‘The X Factor’. Tim has coached the guest artist on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘The Alan Titchmarsh Show’, ‘Children In Need’, ‘BGT’, ‘The Today Show’ (New York), ‘The Piers Morgan Show’ (L.A.) as well as the ‘Australian X Factor’. Tim was a vocal coach on the BBC programme ‘I’d Do Anything.’ He has coached one of the world’s leading chart sellers.

He is one of the UK’s most experienced Estill Teachers, and Wales’ only Estill Mentor & Course Instructor (EMCI) .

Tim regularly gives masterclasses and workshops to training schools and conservatoires in this country and abroad. Most recently he has been involved in training the Speech and Language Therapists in The Royal Exeter and Devon hospital, where he is involved in a clinical study of how to treat muscular tension dysphonia.

He has also given masterclasses and workshops at: RWCMD, ArtsEd, RAM, Drama Studio, GSA, Bath Academy of Music, National Theatre Academy Helsinki, Sibelius Academy Helsinki, Western College and Gloucester University.

He is currently working on a research degree in performance psychology, linking sports psychology and singing performance. He is looking at how we cope with anxiety and pressure in the performance environment. Also looking at how the body and brain interact in learning a motor skill and how we react to the learning environment. This aspect of his work now sees Tim becoming one of the most innovative and forward thinking vocal coaches working today. He is at the forefront of refining how singers practice and develop confidence in their skill set.

Tim really enjoys the nurturing and development of young singers having worked for a number of years on the BA Musical Theatre degree at ArtsEd. In Cardiff he will regularly help young singers build their skills for college auditions and professional auditions.

Ian Nicholas

Ian is an International Vocal Coach working in Wales, London and across Europe. He lectures in Singing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff and was formerly a Vocal Tutor at the Faculty of Musical Theatre at Mountview, London. He has been a visiting or guest lecturer at Arts Ed, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Sibelius Academy, Helsinki and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Ian holds an Honours Degree in Music from Goldsmiths College, University of London.

David Laugharne

David is a music director based in the UK. He studied music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff and after graduating embarked on a career performing worldwide. He has conducted ‘Avenue Q’, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ in London’s West End and ‘Miss Saigon’, ‘The King and I’ and ‘Annie’ on UK tours. He has played in the orchestra pits of musicals including, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Wicked’, ‘The King & I’, ‘Jersey Boys’, ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Lion King’ and many others.
