Ian is an International Vocal Coach working in Wales, London and across Europe. He lectures in Singing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff and was  formerly a Vocal Tutor at the Faculty of Musical Theatre at Mountview, London. He has been a visiting or guest lecturer at Arts Ed, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Sibelius Academy, Helsinki and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Ian holds an Honours Degree in Music from Goldsmiths College, University of London.

He runs a longstanding private practice at the HTVW teaching studios in Wales and London. Clients work within Musical Theatre and in Contemporary Commercial Music. Many of Ian’s clients can be seen in the major productions of The West End and performing in major venues around the world. He is extensively involved with the recording industry, preparing singers for major tours, and coaching in the recording studio.

How The Voice Works are vocal consultants to the Helsinki City Theatre supporting individual singers in productions, most recently coaching sell-out runs of  ‘Kinky Boots’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’. As an experienced choral performer and conductor, Ian has outstanding ensemble teaching skills and gives workshops and classes to theatre companies and choirs including recently working with Theatre Vanemuise, Estonia on their production of Sister Act.

As one of the UK’s most experienced Estill Master Trainers, Ian was the first practitioner in the UK to hold both the EMT and the UK’s highest qualification in Soft Tissue Therapy. Ian has combined his work with the Estill Model and Laryngeal Manual Therapy (LMT) pioneering an integrated model for the treatment and rehabilitation of Muscle Tension Dysphonia and other issues. He works as a Vocal Rehabilitation Coach as part of a Multidisciplinary Voice Clinic team in South Wales, and also works closely with the senior laryngeal surgeons in London.

David Laugharne

David Laugharne is a music director based in the UK. He studied music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff and after graduating embarked on a career performing worldwide. He has conducted ‘Avenue Q’, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ in London’s West End and ‘Miss Saigon’, ‘The King and I’ and ‘Annie’ on UK tours. He has played in the orchestra pits of musicals including, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Wicked’, ‘The King & I’, ‘Jersey Boys’, ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Lion King’ and many others.
