David Laugharne is a music director based in the UK. He studied music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff and after graduating embarked on a career performing worldwide.

He has conducted ‘Avenue Q’, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ in London’s West End and ‘Miss Saigon’, ‘The King and I’ and ‘Annie’ on UK tours. He has played in the orchestra pits of musicals including, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Wicked’, ‘The King & I’, ‘Jersey Boys’, ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘Lion King’ and many others.

In 2012 he conducted Hayley Westenra’s 2012 UK album tour ‘Paradiso’ with The National Symphony Orchestra.

David is also regularly seen as bandleader for Channel 4 Wales’ long running light entertainment TV show Noson Lawen.

With a passion for the future of arts education, in addition to running a private practice mentoring and inspiring young adults, David is a regular guest music director and educator in higher education institutions at home and abroad. He is also an instrumental examiner for RSL (Rockschool) Awards.

In 2015 David spent time in Australia as guest music director for ‘A Chorus Line’ at Queensland Conservatorium, Brisbane and more recently has returned from Malaysia where in 2016-18 he was the music consultant for the building and opening stages of the new Movie Animation Park Studios theme park.

David currently teaches on musical theatre courses at The Royal Welsh College Of Music and Drama and University of Wales Trinity St. David, has recently been music director for ‘The Last Five Years’ at the Wales Millennium Centre and conducted ‘Christmas On Broadway’ with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama concert orchestra.
